Why Pit Bulls Are Not Dangerous

We may have heard the term "Pit Bull" whenever people talk about adopting pets or considering getting one? Or you might have heard someone mention that this breed isn't the best choice when you consider getting a family pet, especially if you have children.

What Are Pit Bulls?

Pit bull isn't a breed. It's just the term they use in the US for a type of dog descended from bulldogs and terriers. The term was first used in 1927. The term is used as an abbreviation of the American pit bull terrier breed. They have a long history of being used for dogfighting. They get those negative traits due to years of interbreeding with other aggressive dogs, earning them a bad reputation. And up to this day, the pit bulls are still suffering from breed racism. In some countries like France, breeds that are part of Pit bulls aren't allowed.

Pit bulls: Are they aggressive?

Pit bulls are considered to have the potential to be aggressive. That's why people get scared when they see pit bulls in public. Yet some people are also fond of them and said that they are such dedicated pets in making their owners happy and are great family members.

There are still people who acquire them for the wrong reasons or have so little knowledge about this dog breed—leading to accidents, or the development of bad behavior. But dogs are not born dangerous. All animals tend to lash out when something hurts or triggers them. If you love your pet, you have to be responsible enough to learn what makes them have such behavior and how to avoid it.

According to the American Temperament Society, Pit bulls have a temperament passing rate of 87%. Which is lower than breeds like Chihuahua, beagle, and Border Collie. It may even shock you, but Chihuahuas tend to show larger amounts of aggression towards humans. Pit bull terriers are more aggressive towards wild animals than humans.

Pit bulls are sweet, playful, and fun pets. You can even put clothes on them too! You can style them depending on your aesthetic, as long as it won't hurt them or trigger something in them.

Also, there are dog lovers, especially pit bull lovers who like to put some stylish dog clothes. As a responsible pet owner, you have to train them to walk wearing a leash when walking around the parks or the streets. And instead of buying them leashes that can easily acquire dirt, why not get them a Cuban dog collar? It is built even for the toughest dogs. Traditional dog collars that are made of cloth can be easily chewed or soiled. While Cuban dog collars are made of metal and do not rust or tarnish. It's a leash that looks like dog bling for some additional swag for your fur buddy!

But do Pit bulls bite?

Like any dog breed, Pit bulls might bite due to lack of training and lack of socialization. Pit bulls are just a small fraction of dogs that bite each year. It's more of an owner error than the dangerous breed issue. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, it's not within the pit bull's inherent traits to bite humans. As a matter of fact, between 2004 and 2014, bites from German Shepherds were most common having more than a hundred cases compared to Pitbulls that only has less than 80.

Conclusion

Pit bulls aren't dangerous dogs. They can be your family and your most loyal best friend as long as you can give the love and care that they need.
